Full House Renovation - Underfloor Heating & New Boiler

Full House Renovation - Underfloor Heating & New Boiler

Project overview

A full heating and plumbing overhaul for a mid-1960s Surrey home and new extension: ground-floor underfloor heating, radiators upstairs, and a modern gas boiler system built for comfort now and flexibility later.

Location:
Woodham, Surrey
Sector:
Residential

The project

This was a complete renovation of an unmodernised mid-1960s house in Surrey, including a new contemporary extension. The existing heating and plumbing were stripped out and replaced in full, with underfloor heating across the ground floor and a new system sized for how the finished home would be lived in.

The client was looking for a properly considered installation rather than a series of short-term fixes: something that would perform from handover and last for years. Staying comfortably warm through the winter, while the wider build was still underway, mattered throughout the programme.

System design

We settled the main design choices early, before first fix, so the heating layout could follow the build rather than hold it up.

  • Upstairs heating: underfloor heating was an option, but radiators gave better room-by-room control, lower cost, and less disruption on a busy renovation site. Those were fitted upstairs.

  • Heat source: an air source heat pump was considered alongside a high-efficiency gas boiler. The gas boiler was chosen for strong performance in the current setup, with the underfloor pipework left ready should the client upgrade to a heat pump later.

On the ground floor, underfloor heating delivers even, unobtrusive warmth across the open living spaces. Upstairs, radiators keep bedrooms and bathrooms straightforward to adjust independently.

On a live renovation site

A project of this size depends on several trades working in sequence. We coordinated with the builder and other contractors from the outset, programming our first and second fix around the wider build rather than treating heating as a late add-on.

Layout questions were answered promptly as rooms took shape, and the team kept the site clean and on programme through a demanding schedule. When other contractors slipped on timing, we worked around the delays without stalling the job.

The result

At handover, a short snagging list was dealt with quickly and did not delay the move-in. The client had never lived in the property before the renovation; moving in afterwards felt like a new home: warm, modern, and ready to use from day one.

Planning a renovation or heating upgrade?

We design and install underfloor heating, boilers and full plumbing systems for renovations and extensions across Surrey and Berkshire, and we are used to working alongside builders and other trades.
